Allied Telesis, Inc., a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play networks, today reveal the contribution that their products can make to green corporate strategies.

As leaders across all industries face increasing pressures to make reductions in the energy consumption and environmental impact of their business, Allied Telesis research shows the contribution that can be made to corporate “green” strategies.

Amongst many other savings, CEOs and their management team are being asked to reduce corporate energy use, streamline supply chains and examine all IT department usage in order to drive more energy-efficient operations. This is not just about being more environmentally responsible but it can also drive cost savings within the business. Projections have shown that $1 in energy saving can often drive an additional $6-$8 in further operational savings; as well as provide much needed competitive differentiation. Five of the Allied Telesis series switches were examined and reviewed to determine the impact that research and development has made to the energy and power consumption of these products over the last five years. The results of this research and review (below), has shown that Allied Telesis has been able to improve the full range of the portfolio, and cut the power consumption by as much as 76%.

Allied Telesis examined the full range of products and solutions, from the access (both copper and fiber) to the core (small to large scale), including the aggregation; thus enabling all Enterprise networks to benefit from these efficiencies. Whilst the most significant reduction is shown within the PoE and fiber optic fast ethernet switches, which are Allied Telesis legacy family of products; between 35% and 50% savings are also demonstrated within the new generation of solutions

As a result of implementing their own strong green strategy, Allied Telesis have been able to demonstrate how their products can contribute to the bottom line, efficiencies and green strategies of their partners’ and customers’ businesses.A small-to-medium sized business (c. 100 network nodes) would save more than 54% of their power. Such a network would be based on a resilient compact backbone with an aggregation layer and 120 edge fast ethernet fiber or copper PoE in the edge. This example could also apply to a smaller hospital as well as to a small-medium sized enterprise
